Reliance Power today synchronised the second unit of its power plant in Butibori, Maharashtra. The coal firing of the 300 megawatt unit will complete the work of the 600 megawatt power plant, which will distribute its power within the state. The first unit achieved full load last August.

This capacity will add to Reliance Power's already existing 1,200 megawatts of Rosa power plant in Uttar Pradesh, and yet another 40 megawatt solar power plant in Rajasthan. “With this our operating capacity goes up to 1,840 Mw,” said J P Chalasani, the chief executive officer of Reliance Power.

The company's largest project ie ultra mega power project (UMPP) at Sasan is currently under construction. The 4,000 megawatt power plant is also expected to commission its first unit of 660 megawatt, this quarter. The corresponding coal block which is captive to the power plant, started its production in September last year.

“Reliance Power’s flagship project in Sasan is also progressing at a rapid pace and we expect to commission the first 660 MW unit of the UMPP in the near future,” said Chalsani.
