SJVNL inks integrity pact with Transparency Intl

Hydro-electric firm Satlej Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) became the first joint venture PSU in the country to sign an integrity agreement with Transparency International, India, on Wednesday here.

The Shimla based SJVNL is a Central- and Himachal government-owned PSU building hydro electric projects in Himachal Pradesh and other states besides Nepal and Bhutan.

It has built and now runs the 1,500 Mw Nathpa Jhakri the country’s largest hydro-electric project on the Sutlej river.

The pact was signed by H K Sharma Chairman SJVNL and P S Bawa Chairman Transparency International, India.

The agreement is an anti-corruption tool to help governments,businesses and civil society intent on fighting corruption in the field of public contracting and procurement.

It consists of an agreement between a government or government agency and all bidders for a contract.

The pact sets out rights and obligations to the effect that neither side will pay, offer, demand or accept bribes, and the bidders would not collude with competitors to bribe representatives of the government to obtain the contract.
