The directors on the boards of Indian companies are across a broad range of age groups, with the youngest of them born around the time of India's liberalization and the oldest of them being around since before the Great Depression of the 1920s.
Data shows that the there are eight directors who are aged twenty five or below. There are 16 who are over the age of 90. Another 242 are between the ages of 81-90.
Data has been obtained from indianboards.com, which maintains data on the composition of Indian boardrooms, and has been created as an initiative between Prime Database and NSE.
The largest proportion of directors are in the age group of 46-60, accounting for nearly a third (32.87 per cent) of the directors. Those between 61-69 make up another 20.29%. Those between the age groups of 36-45, 26-35 and 70-80 make up between 2-13%.
The youngest director is Shashwat Goenka, at 23 years. Ninety-four year old Murti Prabhanjana Matam is the oldest director.
Those over the age of 70 hold over a 1000 independent director posts. There are 684 such individuals holding 1067 positions.
The average age of a director is 59 years.
