Tata Engg Weighs Strategic Initiative For Axles Division Of Hv

Tata Engineering is considering a strategic initiative for the axles division of its heavy trucks manufacturing unit, which could involve spinning it off into a joint venture with a strategic partner.

According to V Sumantran, executive director of Tata Engineering, the facilities available at the heavy axles division, currently being used to manufacture axles for only its own range of heavy commercial vehicles, could be used to a higher degree of efficiency through the initiative under consideration.

Sumantran also said the company might consider creation of strategic business units, which would function as independent profit centres.
