Tata Consultancy Services BPO, the backoffice arm of TCS, today said it was scaling up its units in India, the US and the Philippines to serve its clients across various geographies.
"We are investing in scaling up our centres in Michigan (US), Manila (Philippines) as well as Tier-II centres in India such as Kolkata and Pune," TCS Vice-President Global Head (BPO Services) Abid Ali Neemuchwala said.
The company is also setting up a 2,000-seater unit in Ahmedabad, he added.
The Ahmedabad centre is expected to become operational in the December quarter and will have about 1,000 people in the first phase.
Currently, TCS BPO has about 35,000 people, of which 4,500 are based outside India. It has centres in the US, the Philippines, latin America, Europe and China apart from India.
Asked about the demand environment, Neemuchwala said there was no significant impact on business because of the economic conditions in Europe and the US.
"At such times, companies look at our industry to get solutions which would help them reduce costs as well as find new revenue streams. So, there are opportunities which are opening up as clients look at more transformational projects," he said.
TCS BPO posted revenues of $925 million for the year ended March 31, 2011.
