Volkswagen today posted a 3.36% increase in sales in India to 5,789 units for January.
The company sold 5,601 units in the corresponding period last year.
Compact car 'Polo' and sedan 'Vento' continue to be the backbone for the brand, with a total of 5,402 units sold in January, Volkswagen said in a statement.
In addition, luxury sedans 'Jetta' and 'Passat' together accounted for sales of 387 units during the month.
"The first month has shown a decent performance, with sales even growing slightly as compared to the same period last year. We take this as a very positive sign and are confident to go forward during the year with growth in sales numbers," Volkswagen Group Sales India Member of Board and Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Neeraj Garg said.
