Nashik-based York Winery, which produces a variety of wines, is eyeing revenues worth Rs 1.5 crore at the end of the first year of its launch. Introduced into the market nine months ago at an investment of Rs 6 crore, York Winery now plans to set up a specialised restaurant at their property along with accommodation to give wine enthusiasts a complete wine experience.

At present, York produces 150,000 litre of wine per fiscal with a market ranging from Mumbai, Pune, Nasik and soon-to-be-launched in Delhi. By pricing the product in the range of Rs 295 to Rs 595, the company is trying to attract customers even as it claims to be focusing on quality. “We want to give to our customers wine that is high quality yet at a non-intimidating price. We want our commitment to quality to be reflected through our wines. The competitive pricing is our initial strategy to get people to get used to our wine and later too our price will be relative to the quality of the wine we serve. We do not want to be known as an over priced brand,” says Ravi Gurnani, director, York Winery.

Spread over nine acres in Nashik, the winery houses a vineyard and production facility besides a host of attractions for wine enthusiasts including a wine-tasting room, arrangements for a detailed tour of the vineyard, to name a few. Apart from engaging in initiatives like holding food and wine sessions for its target audience, York plans to open up  a wine bar and an accommodation at its winery.

“We help grape growers with their issues like we educate them on grooming techniques, spraying techniques, advice them on how much yield to use and the like because wineries will refuse to take a bad product, so we help them attain a good quality for their product,” Gurnani adds.

York has gold and bronze medals from Sommelier India Wine Competition (SIWC) to its credit.
