At least 27 people have been reported dead in the Madhya Pradesh twin derailment tragedy which struck on Tuesday  night. The Kamayani Express from Mumbai to Varanasi and the Mumbai-Jabalpur Janata Express derailed near Kudawa station, around 11:30 pm on Tuesday night. 

Six coaches of the Kamayani express and three coaches plus the engine of Janata express were derailed . More than 300 people have been rescued so far. This is the  fifth railway accident of this year, and the eighth after the Modi government was formed.

May 26, 2014 
Gorakhdham Express rammed into an stationary goods train near Khalilabad station in Sant Kabir Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh killing at least 25 and injuring over 50

May 4, 2014 
Diva Junction-Sawantvadi Passenger train derailed between Nagothane and Roha stations at 9:30 am. About 20 were killed while nearly 100 people were injured

August 19, 2013 
At least 35 people died when 12567 Saharsa-Patna Rajya Rani SF Express ran over people at the Dhamara station near Saharsa in Bihar. 

May 22, 2012 
The Hubli-Bangalore Hampi Express collided with a goods train near Penukonda, Andhra Pradesh, at 3:45 am in the morning. 14 people were dead and 35 were injured in the collision.

July 10, 2011 
Kalka Mail derailed near Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh killing 70 people and injuring more than 300.

July 7, 2011 
A Mathura Chhapra Express train rammed into a bus carrying wedding guests around 2 am  at a railway crossing in Thanagaon, Kanshiram Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, killing 38 and injuring 30.

July 19, 2010 
The Uttar Banga Express collided with the Vananchal Express in Sainthia, West Bengal. Nearly 80 people were killed and more than 180 injured in the incident.

May 28, 2010 
In what was suspected as a Naxal sabotage, at least 170 people were killed when the Gyaneshwari Express first derailed between Khemashuli and Sardiha in West Midnapore district at 1:30 AM midnight, and was then struck by an oncoming goods train.

January 2, 2010
This was a triple mishap day as fog played havoc in Uttar Pradesh. Near Etawah, the Lichchavi Express rammed into a stationary Magadh Express. Ten people, including the driver of one of the trains, were injured. 
In the second incident, the Gorakhdham Express and Prayagraj Express collided near the Panki railway station in Kanpur, injuring 51
In Pratapgarh, the Sarayu Express hit a tractor trolley at a railway crossing. Fortunately no one was hurt in this third event of the day.

October 21, 2009 
The locomotive of the Goa Express rammed into the rearmost carriage of the then stationary Mewar Express, at Mathura, Uttar Pradesh killing 21 and leaving several others injured. 

November 26, 2005 
The first five coaches and locomotive of the Mandovi express were crushed in a tunnel near Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, after a rock-fall. More than 100 people died and 500 were injured.

October 29, 2005 
The Repalle-Secunderabad Delta Passenger derailed at Valigonda, in Nalgonda district, Andhra Pradesh. Caught in severe rains, some of the bogies fell into the Musi River, killing at around 100 people.

December 14, 2004
The Jammu Tawi Express coming from Jammu, and the DMU Jalandhar-Amritsar passenger train returning from Jalandhar, rammed into each other, at 11.45 am near Mansar, Punjab. The furious collision derailed and upturned three coaches and reduced the two engines rubble. 36 passengers died and 50 were injured.
