Over 80 villages have been submerged and around 25,000 persons affected in Rewa and Satna districts of Madhya Pradesh due to torrential rains that have lashed the Vindhya region for the last three days.

The Indian army has been roped in to rescue stranded villagers in Rewa.

The villagers were rescued through boats and rescue camps set up in both districts.

Rewa District Official Rahul Jain told IANS on Wednesday that most villages and localities along the Bihad and Tamas rivers in Teonthar were submerged.

Five wards in the city were affected due to the flooding and victims taken to rescue camps.

Rescue teams comprised of army personnel from Allahabad and Jabalpur. The police, Home Guards and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other teams were also roped in.

The continuing rainfall in Satna district has left rivers overflowing. The Mandakini river, Tamas river and Sihawal river have surpassed the danger mark which has caused over flooding of canals and submerged villages.

The entire Satna district including Maihar and Trikut were inundated, Police Superintendent Mithilesh Shukla told IANS.
