Admissions already given under Maratha quota to be retained

The Maharashtra cabinet has decided to retain admissions done as per the Maratha reservation quota before the state government's decision was stayed by the High Court.

"The Maratha reservation seats have been protected by the court while staying the decision. Those students who have not yet submitted their non-creamy layer and caste validation certificate will be allowed time to do so," Education Minister Vinod Tawde told reporters here today.

When asked if the decision would be valid for those who got admissions under the Muslim quota as well, the Minister replied in the affirmative.

Tawde said that vacancies in government and semi-government jobs would be filled keeping aside the 16 per cent quota.

"The 16 per cent quota can be filled after the court's final ruling on Maratha reservation," he said. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Chief Minister's Office said that in another cabinet decision, the state government has decided to raise the height of hospital buildings from 30 metres to 45 metres.

The retirement age of professors in government medical, dental and ayurvedic colleges have been raised from 63 years to 64 years, the statement said.

There are 14 government medical, three dental and four ayurvedic colleges in the state.

The cabinet also passed a resolution congratulating Jnanpith awardee Bhalchandra Nemade and decided to organise a public felicitation for the celebrated writer. "I strongly condemn the derogatory references made by Salman Rushdie against Nemade," Tawde, who is also culture minister of Maharashtra, said.
