Gurunath Meiyappan, son-in-law of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President N Srinivasan, was on Saturday chargesheeted for criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery in the IPL betting case by the Mumbai Police. This comes as blow for Srinivasan ahead of the board’s annual general meeting where he intends to seek a year’s extension.

Following the chargesheet, Srinivasan said he would not step aside as the BCCI president, adding that he had not seen the chargesheet against Meiyappan, so would not be able to comment.

“I am not disqualified, why should I step down? Let the Supreme Court take the decision... I will ask the BCCI secretary to take appropriate steps. If he (Gurunath) is wrong, the law will take its course,” he said.

Apart from Meiyappan, actor and reality TV star Vindoo and 20 others have been made accused in the case. Meiyappan, 35, had been arrested on May 25 and granted bail on June 3.
