CM's sub-group on Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan to meet on June 24

The Sub-Group of Chief Ministers on Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan under the NITI Aayog will hold their meeting in Bengaluru on Wednesday to discuss ways and means to achieve universal sanitation coverage, to improve cleanliness and make India free of open-defecation by 2019 to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is the convenor of the sub-group, will preside over the meeting. The sub-group consists of chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and West Bengal. The chief ministers of all the member states are expected to attend the meeting.

Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog Sindhushree Khuller and Secretary of the Minister of Rural Development Saraswati Prasad are scheduled to participate in this meeting, which is being held in Bengaluru for the first time.

The chief ministers’ sub-group on Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan was constituted on March 9, 2015.

The sub-group has been asked to examine models for private sector participation and to suggest ways for its effective implementation. The Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 2, 2014.
