FIFA 2014: Different geographies, different reactions

With Germany winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup after defeating Argentina 1-0 in extra time, media in the finalists' nations reacted differently, as expected

‘Rumble in Rio with Idol as Savior, Ode to Löw's world champion’ roared the main headlines of a leading German news website, n-TV, resonating the ecstatic mood of the nation, German media has been on a cheering spree.
 
Germany sealed its fate with Mario Götze’s stunning goal in the 113th minute as FIFA World Cup champions in 2014.
 
“This world title was not only accumulated, but won: 113 minutes long hardness, sweat and blood - and then the redeeming moment. The German victory is a triumph of team spirit. This is the culmination of the era Low”, stated the Speigel, a leading German newspaper.
 
"Germany in Paradise" (“Deutschland im Paradies“) was the headline of German news website bild.de . With the man of the moment, Mario Gotze’s emotional face after the win as the the cover image, the headline captured the waves of overwhelming emotions felt by the players after the victory.
 
"It's incredible, it will take some time before we understand that now we must celebrate..," an ecstatic Müller told a reporter in the midst of the celebrations.
 
While the Germans were in paradise with their win Argentina’s fan were in mouring as its champions bowed out in the finals, unable to seize a chance that they got after 24 years to lift the cup.

“The Dream was foiled in overtime” read an Argentina’s newspaper’s headline, Clarin.

“Heart of Champion” read the header of another Argentine news website Ole.com, with the winner of the golden ball’s grim face after the match. 

 “After the frustration of Messi, Masche and all for not bringing the Cup that was close, the team deserve the best reception.
They played a great final against Germany, we stole a penalty, goals were wasted in the 120 minutes but the soul was allowed,” it read on. 

 Following their humiliating exit in the semi finals against Germany and their ghastly performance against Netherlands in the match for the third position, Brazilian fans breathed a sigh of relief as their rivals were defeated in the finals. 

 “Mario Götze comes off the bench and makes the only goal to the delight of Brazilian fans and frustration of Argentine in Rio”, stated a leading Brazilian news website, globo.com.
