Friendly relations with neighbouring states have helped resolve a number of interstate issues benefiting Telangana in the past couple of years, chief minister K Chandrasekhara Rao said while addressing the Independence Day celebrations on Monday.
Telangana was able to forge a mutual understanding with Maharashtra, Karnataka and Chattisgarh states in the matter of irrigation projects and power sector, while the state will start receiving 1000 mw of power from Chattishgarh in another four months time, according to him.
"Projects on River Godavari did not progress as the previous governments failed to resolve the disputes with Maharashtra. Now the two states are all set to sign some historic agreements on irrigation projects as a result of our engagement with them. Similarly Karnataka has agreed to expedite construction of interstate Rajoli Banda Diversion project on Krishna. During the summer season Karnataka had released 1 tmc of water to Jurala reservoir in view of drinking water scarcity in downstream Mahabubnagar district. All this points to a new chapter in our relationship with neighboring states," he said.
His government's cordial relationship with the Centre has also been proving helpful in getting projects and other necessary help for the development of the Telangana, according to him.
"The length of the National Highways in Telangana region prior to the bifurcation was just about 2,592 kms. In the last two years we were granted an additional of 1,951 kms of national highways. The Prime Minister had laid foundation stones for several new projects in his recent visit and also promised their quick completion" he stated.
Chief minister Rao also announced that the proposed new districts in the state will come into existence by October this year.
