ICG Dornier wreckage recovered from sea waters near Tamil Nadu

The debris, including the Cockpit Voice Recorder, recovered by Reliance vessel Olympic Canyon

The wreckage of the Indian Coast Guard Dornier Aircraft was found at depths of 990 metres in position 17 Nautical Miles South East of Cuddolore.

The wreckage included the Flight Data Recorder, two Engines, Propellers, Tail and Tail Cone, Air Frame parts, Maevest, the Single line replacement unit, parts of the fuselage, part of the landing gear and the Cockpit Voice Recorder.

The debris has been identified and recovered from the sea bed by the Reliance vessel Olympic Canyon.

It may be noted that after a little more than a month of intensive search, the debris of the missing Coast Guard Dornier aircraft and its Flight Data Recorder were located near Tamil Nadu coastline on July 10.

However, the fate of the three young crew are still not known.

The officials on Friday, July 10, announced that flight data recorder and one line replacement unit of the aircraft has been recovered. The flight data recorder could provide vital inputs towards establishing the cause of the incident.

Indian Naval Submarine Sindhudhavaj, on its redeployment for locating the missing aircraft, picked up a barrage of transmissions in a depth of 996 meters on July 6. This information wasa  vital source for deployment of the Reliance Vessel to localise the search.

The Dornier aircraft with three crew members -- all in their 30s -- went missing on June 8 night while returning to the base after a regular surveillance sortie along the Tamil Nadu coast and Palk Bay.
