Judicary should know its limits, too much interference causes worry: Naqvi

Amid the ongoing spat between the judiciary and the executive Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Wednesday asserted that the judiciary should function within its limits and avoid promoting a culture of increasing interference, which he said is a matter of worry.

In an exclusive interview to ETV News head Jagdeesh Chandra, Naqvi said, "Increasing interference of judicial system in legislative work is a sign of worry. It is being seen that the judicial system often rejects bills passed by Parliament. In this situation, it seems that the work which is to be done by Parliament is being done by the judiciary."

He said that this clash between the judiciary and legislature is not new.

"People have a lot of faith in the judiciary and it should respect it, and at the same time, everyone should respect their limits and work by remaining within its premises," he added.

Chief Justice of India T S Thakur has said that if there is neglect and failure on part of government agencies, the judiciary will definitely play its role.

Chief Justice Thakur said that the judiciary is not interested in interfering in the works of the others and the fact is that 85% of the citizens step to the doors of the courts only when they are disappointed by the governments.

Meanwhile, the Union Minister for Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari representing the Centre questioning the legitimacy of the judiciary intervening in the government matters, asserting that proceeding according to the Constitution will be good for both the country and the people.

Gadkari added that there is a fair chance of failure in every field but to what extent a field can be allowed to intervene with the other is still debatable.
