AirAsia India's Pune-Bengaluru flight aborts take off at last minute

Bengaluru-bound AirAsia India flight from Pune aborted take off at the last minute on Sunday due to a technical issue. The number of passengers on board the A320 aircraft was not known. AirAsia India in a statement confirmed that its Bengaluru flight from Pune returned to bay owing to a technical issue. ''AirAsia India flight i5-1427 operating from Pune to Bengaluru cancelled take-off and returned to bay due to a technical reason,'' an AirAsia India spokesperson said in a statement. The spokesperson, however, did not share any other details. Earlier a passenger tweeted, ''For some reason Air-Asia Pune-Bengaluru Airbus A-320 aircraft suddenly aborted t-off at Pune airport. After rolling on RWY 28 At almost 50knots the aircraft aborted take off and went back to the apron.''

Delhi air pollution: Lifting curbs to check pollution hasty decision, say experts

Revoking curbs imposed in Delhi-NCR under the final stage of an action plan to combat air pollution could prove to be a hasty decision, experts said on Sunday and advised caution. 
 
Their reaction came after the Centre's air quality panel directed authorities on Sunday to lift the ban on plying of non-BS VI diesel-run light motor vehicles in Delhi-NCR and entry of trucks into the capital imposed under the final stage of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). The restrictions were imposed three days ago.

The Maharashtra government will work on planning a film city between Mumbai and Thane cities to provide a wider platform to artists, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said on Sunday. Speaking at an event where noted Marathi theatre actor Prashant Damle was felicitated for the 12,500th show of his play 'Eka Lagnachi Gosht', Shinde said the state government will support Marathi theatre and cinema.

EC to convene all-party meeting tomorrow ahead of MCD polls

Ahead of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls, Delhi State Election Commission convened an all-party meeting on Monday. This meeting will be held at the Nigam Bhawan, Kashmere Gate. Delhi State Election on Friday announced the schedule for MCD elections. MCD elections will be held on December 4 while the counting of votes will be done on December 7.

2 killed, 13 injured in gas explosion in Karachi

A woman and her teenage daughter were killed and 13 others injured in a gas explosion in their apartment in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Saturday, reported Dawn citing police. The injured were shifted to the Burns Centre of Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital where Sana Bashir Ahmed, 40, and her daughter Alishba, 18, died during treatment. The police called the bomb disposal squad (BDS), which examined the place and ruled out the possibility of any sabotage. The BDS in its report said the explosion was so powerful that doors and domestic use goods were destroyed. “Accumulation of gas at one place caused the explosion,” according to initial findings of the BDS.

Despite Zero-COVID policy, China reports highest cases in last 6 months

Despite its strict zero-Covid policy, China on Sunday reported its highest number of new coronavirus infections in six months.
 
The news comes a day after health officials said they were sticking with the strict coronavirus curbs. China recorded 4,420 new locally transmitted Covid-19 infections Saturday, the National Health Commission said, the most since May 6 and compared up from 3,659 new local cases a day earlier.
 
While case numbers are extremely low by global standards, China has stuck with a zero-Covid approach nearly three years into the pandemic that involves lockdowns, quarantines, frequent testing and a drastic decrease in inbound travel.

Mumbai sees 67 COVID-19 cases

Mumbai on Sunday reported 67 COVID-19 cases, which took the tally here to 11,54,409, while the fatality count remained unchanged at 19,741, a civic official said. Of the new cases, only five are symptomatic and have been hospitalised, taking the number of such cases to 59, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official said.

  • In Odisha BJP retained the Dhamnagar assembly seat defeating the ruling BJD by a margin of 9,881. BJP's Suryabanshi Suraj secured 80,351 votes.
  • BJP's Aman Giri won the Gola Gokarannath Assembly bypoll by defeating Samajwadi Party candidate Vinay Tiwari by over 34,000 vote.
  • BJP candidate and former chief minister Bhajan Lal's grandson Bhavya Bishnoi defeated Congress nominee Jai Prakash by 15740 votes.
  • BJP retained the Gopalganj seat, its candidate Kusum Devi defeated RJD's Mohan Gupta by less than 2000 votes.
  • TRS candidate Prabhakar Reddy defeated BJP candidate Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy by 11666 votes in Telangana's Munugode.
  • Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction) candidate Rutuja Latke won by 66,247 votes in Andheri East bypolls.
  • RJD's Neelam Devi won the Mokama seat in Bihar defeating BJP candidate Sonam Devi by a margin of nearly 17,000 votes.

Rakesh Tikait says will boycott trials of GM Mustard

BKU leader Rakesh Tikait here on Sunday said he will not allow trials of genetically modified (GM) Mustard proposed by the central government. Addressing the mahapanchayat of farmers near Ghungroo intersection of Jhalwa, Tikait said, "The Ministry of Science and Technology has approved the trial of GM mustard. Preparations are being made to conduct trials at two places, Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh and Bharatpur in Rajasthan. We will not allow the trial, neither in Uttar Pradesh nor in Rajasthan."
