Parts of Maharashtra likely to receive heavy rainfall

Parts of Maharashtra are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Monday morning, the Regional Meteorological Centre of Mumbai said. "Generally cloudy sky with moderate rain in city and suburbs. Possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places," the weather agency informed in its daily bulletin.

 

The India Meteorological Department in its daily bulletin on Sunday also confirmed the development and informed that "fairly widespread/ widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/ lightning is very likely over Karnataka, Konkan and Goa, Kerala and Mahe and Lakshadweep and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall likely over Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Marathwada, Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during next 5 days."

Security forces deployed in Bihar amid Bharat Bandh

In view of the Bharat Bandh called by some organisations as a protest against the Agnipath recruitment scheme, security personnel was seen deployed across Patna as a precautionary measure on Monday.

 

The Union Cabinet on June 14 approved a recruitment scheme for Indian youth to serve in the three services of the Armed Forces called Agnipath and the youth selected under this scheme will be known as Agniveers. Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in several states on Monday amid protests against the Centre's new Agnipath recruitment scheme.

Rahul to appear before ED today

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday for a fourth time in connection with the National Herald case.

 

His appearance was initially scheduled for June 17, but the senior Congress leader wrote to the ED to postpone his questioning citing illness of his mother Sonia Gandhi. Accepting his request, the probe agency asked him to appear on Monday.

 

For three consecutive days last week, Rahul Gandhi had been grilled for about 30 hours amid widespread Congress protests in the national capital against their leader being questioned.

Magnitude 6.0 earthquake shakes central Taiwan coast

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake shook Taiwan on Monday morning. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The quake struck at 9:05 am at a depth of 6.8 kilometres in Hualien county, halfway down the east coast of the island, Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau said.

 

It was felt across most of the island of 24 million people including to the north in Taipei, the capital. It was also felt across the Taiwan Strait in mainland China's Fujian province, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said.
