Register FIRs against Nadda, Sonowal for ads on Assam outcome: Cong to EC

With the BJP advertising claims of winning all seats in upper Assam, the Congress on Sunday said it is in violation of the Representation of the People Act and urged the Election Commission to register FIRs against BJP chief J P Nadda and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
 

In a complaint to the Election Commission (EC), Congress leaders Randeep Surjewala, Ajay Maken and Mukul Wasnik sought directions and action against top BJP leaders for giving advertisements in newspapers claiming victory in all upper Assam seats.

 
They said such advertisements are in clear violation of the directions given by the EC that no one can make predictions of the results during the prohibited period. Read more

Farmers celebrate Holika Dahan' by burning copies of Centre's farm laws

Farmers camping at Delhi borders on Sunday burnt copies of the Centre's new farm laws they have been protesting against during Holika Dahan', the Samyukta Kisan Morcha said, according to PTI.


The protesting farmers celebrated Holi at the borders and maintained that their agitation will continue till the farm laws are repealed and a separate law on minimum support price is enacted, it said in a statement. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), a joint front of farmer unions, also said that it will observe "FCI Bachao Diwas" on April 5, adding that offices of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) will be gheraoed from 11 am to 5 pm across the country.

Puducherry assembly polls: Free vaccination for all, says Congress manifesto

Free COVID-19 vaccination for all; scrapping of NEET and the new education policy; Rs 1,000 as assistance for homemakers; re-opening of mills; and enhanced pension for martyrs' kin are some of the promises made by the Congress party in its poll manifesto, reported PTI. The manifesto was released here on Sunday by former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily.


The manifesto promised free vaccination against COVID-19 the expenses of which would be borne by the government. A homemaker in every family would get a monthly assistance of Rs 1,000, the manifesto said. Steps would be taken to scrap NEET mode for medical admission, and the new education policy, the manifesto said. A university of agriculture would be set up in Karaikal and a varsity of law in Puducherry, the manifesto said, according to PTI.


It promised waiver of loans taken by beneficiaries through the Backward Class Corporation and Puducherry Adi Dravidar Development Corporation. Civic elections would be conducted immediately, it said. A quota of 25 per cent for the students of Puducherry in each of the courses available in the Puducherry University, it said.
