The district administration has chalked out plans for a three-day campaign in Mysore district for 'Systematic Voters' Education snd Electoral Participation' (SVEEP) in view of the Assembly elections scheduled to be held on May 5.

The campaign includes a massive rally on April 2 in Mysore comprising participants drawn from different departments of the State Government. The jatha, to commence from the Palace northern entrance at 5 pm and end at the Deputy Commissioner's office premises at 6 pm will comprise 300 participants each from the Women and Child Welfare, Health and Education Departments, 200 each from Youth and Sports, Backward Classes and Nehru Yuva Kendra and 100 from other departments with voter-education placards and leaflet distribution. It was also decided to organise similar rallies at all taluk centres with the help of local bodies on the same day.

The Department of Women and Child Welfare was asked to organise the SVEEP rallies by children at the village level with the co-operation of anganwadi workers and house-to-house distribution of leaflets by the health and Asha workers of the Health Department on April 3. The District Industries Centre (DIC) was directed to convene a meeting of industrialists and ask them to declare holiday on May 5 and ask the workers to exercise their franchise. A meeting here on Monday was presided over by Mysore Zilla Panchayat CEO Ajay Nagabhushan who also decided to conduct a publicity campaign in the jurisdiction of Mysore City Corporation and local bodies in the district to create awareness among the people to enroll their names in the electoral rolls.

This campaign, to be held from March 28 to May 5, will include arranging display on hoardings of various companies and in hotel lounges to impress upon the people on voter education snd electoral participation, to send bulk SMSes and ring tones on the BSNL network, loudspeaker announcements at KSRTC bus stands and railway stations, display of slides in cinema houses, messages through FM and cable networks and publicity at tourist places by the Tourism Department.

It was also decided to award three prizes for the best three slogans on SVEEP.
