Taking citizen engagement to another level, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday will launch a mobile app for PMO, which has been developed by six students, selected through a contest to make the app.
The government is celebrating two years of Mygov.in, the citizen engagement portal, from where Modi had often crowd sourced ideas for his radio talk Mann Ki Baat and other signature campaigns of the government.
The mobile app will allow the Prime Minister to directly interact with the citizens who can share their ideas and thoughts.
According to Mygov CEO Gaurav Dwivedi, the app has been made by a team of six students, three of whom are from Delhi Technical University.
"The students were selected through a contest. A total of 119 teams had submitted entries for the application design in the multi-stage contest, of which 5 teams were selected to make the app. The app made by a team of these six students was than selected," Dwivedi said.
Modi is one of the few political leaders who understands the worth of social media and often interact with citizens through such platforms. It's happening for the first time that a Prime Minister is seeking ideas about Independence Day speech of August 15 through crowd sourcing.
The celebrations of Mygov will also comprise of multiple sessions wherein people can share and discuss ideas. People from across the country, who have contributed for Mygov platform, are invited for an interactive discussion between them and senior officials representing ministries, who have organised various contests.
The whole day event will culminate with a townhall event with Prime Minister, which will include launch of new Mygov initiatives.
This will be the first time that the citizens will be able to interact one-on-one with senior government officials and give their suggestions on various on-ground and digital activities run by the government.
MyGov platform was launched by Modi on July 26, 2014. It has 3.52 million registered members and has so far undertaken 589 discussions. The portal has attracted as many as 3.4 million comments.
