In an endeavour to attract more tourists from North Indian states, in Maharashtra, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) said it has opened a tourist information centre in Delhi to tap the foreign tourists visiting the capital.

The Corporation has rented out a 150 square feet commercial property in Hotel Janpath at a rent value of 2.5 lakh per month. It also opened a similar centre in Hyderabad.

The state houses heritage sites like the caves of Ajanta-Ellora, the 720 kilo meter long coastline, pilgrimage sites such as Shirdi and some other interesting tourist places like Mumbai having many sight-seeing opportunities. There are also places of interest like Buddhist Pagoda at Gorai and hill stations like Mahabaleshwar-Panchgani and Matheran, wildlife sanctuaries of Tadoba-Pench and India's wine capital-Nashik which MTDC wants to capitalise on. MTDC has been taking steps to encourage tourism in Maharashtra. Apart from Delhi, MTDC is planning to open such centres in Lucknow and Tirupati in the near future, Jagdish Patil, managing director, MTDC, said.

Information like various destinations, connectivity routes, information on MTDC resorts, booking status will be available through these centres.

With this initiative, MTDC plans to target 100,000 tourists in a year.
