The incident is a severe blow to the government’s claim of eradicating the Naxal menace by expanding road network and has put security agencies on alert. a probe has been launched to establish exactly how the rebels were successful in lacing the tar road with mines.

State Home Minister Ajay Chandrakar said the incident occurred near Mailwada in Dantewada district. According to reports, the CRPF jawans belonging to the 230 battalion were moving towards Kuakonda when the incident took place at around 3 pm. The spot is about 30 km from the district headquarters of Dantewada and 450 km from the state capital.
A senior police official said that the blast created a six-feet cater on the road. The jawans were in civil uniform and were returning to duty. They did not carry any weapon.
