The Kerala police team probing the June 10 Kozhikode airport firing today arrested airport’s fire and rescue supervisor Ajikumar.

He was taken into custody by the Kondotty police at a private hospital in Kozhikode, where he was undergoing treatment. He is employed with the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

Recalling the incident, the clash at the airport began soon after Ajikumar was stopped by the CISF personnel at the airport entrance on the night of June 10; which led to the death of CISF jawan SS Yadav.

Sunny Thomas, working with the fire and rescue department, currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital, is also likely to be arrested. Sources said Thomas would be shifted to Kozhikode Medical College for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the police has not been able to gather evidence on the number of rounds allegedly fired from CISF sub inspector Sitaram Choudhary’s pistol.

Kerala police presence in airports

A  report of the state intelligence bureau suggested creating the state police presence at Kerala airports to maintain the law and order.

Based on the report, the force will now inform the Centre that it was willing to guard the airports in the state. Kerala DGP, TP Senkumar, would write a letter to the Centre seeking permission to carry out security operations at all airports of the state. The state police security extended to Kozhikode airport would remain.

Meanwhile, the Manjeri First Class Judicial Magistrate court today directed the four CISF soldiers arrested yesterday to be in remand for 14 days.
