The Mumbai based batsman blasted his way into the record books by hitting 264 in 173 deliveries against a hapless Sri Lankan bowling attack. The innings was studded with nine sixes and 33 fours.
In doing so he broke Virendra Sehwag's earlier record of 219 and became the only batsman to have hit a double hundred twice in ODIs.
Interestingly the only three batsmen who've gone past the magical mark of 200 are Indian. The other two being Virendra Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar.
Rohit's 264 has powered India to 404 for five batting first. In reply Sri Lankans who've been struggling throughout this trip, folded for 251 which was 13 runs short of Rohit's score, a stat loved by the social media.
Intrestingly he was on 4 off 16 deliveries when he was dropped by Thisara Perera but that is the game, isn't it?
