Second orbit raising operation of GSAT-29, which was launched on Wednesday, was successfully conducted on Friday. The final firing to position the satellite is expected on Saturday.

The second orbit raising operation of GSAT29 was carried out today by firing the Liquid Apogee Motor engine at 10:27 (IST), for a duration of 4,988 seconds. The satellite will be home in its intended orbit with one more firing tomorrow, said Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) sources.

On Wednesday, Isro successfully launched its GSLV Mk III with GSAT-29 satellite from Sriharikota. With this successful developmental flight, Isro will have a new launcher, which can carry heavy satellites. Besides, it will also give boost two crucial programmes of Isro Chandrayaan-2 and Human Space Programme.

GSAT-29, which is a multibeam, multi-band communication satellite weighing 3,423 kgs. The spacecraft will be located at 55 degrees east longitude and designed for a mission life of 10 years. The satellite will provide communication services to the Northeast region and Jammu and Kashmir to facilitate execution of Digital India initiatives, ISRO Chairman Dr K Sivan said.

On Thursday Isro conducted that first apogee motor-firing of GSAT-29. With the second one was orbit-raising manoeuver was also conducted successfully third one will be conducted tomorrow to position the satellite in the Geostationary Orbit.

It may be noted, the satellite was placed in Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) on Wednesday.
