BJP leader Subramanian Swamy upped his Twitter attacks on Wednesday, this time calling an unnamed BJP MP a ‘mad unelectable dog’ even as he tore into Times Now channel’s editor Arnab Goswami.

The ‘unelectable’ MP is widely assumed to be Finance Minister Arun Jaitley himself, who lost the Amritsar seat in the Lok Sabha elections even as the BJP swept to a historic majority.

Swamy, himself a newly-minted Rajya Sabha MP, attacked Goswami, saying that he is ‘foaming in the mouth’ after chanting ‘Muruga Muruga’ – in Tamil, ‘Murugan’ is interchangeably used for ‘Subramanian’.

Goswami had on Monday conducted an interview with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which the latter criticised the recent attacks on RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, saying Rajan was a patriot and that people indulging in publicity stunts should not think they were furthering the cause of the nation.

Modi’s comments have been widely seen as a snub to Swamy.

In seeming response to the ‘publicity stunt’ comment, Swamy on Wednesday tweeted that publicity seemed to be seeking him, and not the other way around, noting the number of television crews gathered outside his house.

A few days ago, Jaitley had also sought the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) intervention to put a halt to Swamy’s running attacks on Rajan and later key economic policymakers such as Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian and then Economic Affairs secretary Shaktikanta Das. The finance minister felt that his position in the party was being undermined as and demanded that the attacks from the Swamy on him and the ministry must stop.

The Finance Minister, in his response to these attacks, had defended the CEA and said that he had full faith in him. He had also cautioned Swamy that baseless allegations should not be made against people whose office demands discipline. Swamy had retorted, again on Twitter, that there would be a “bloodbath” if he decided not to maintain discipline.

Congress leader Digivijaya Singh had said that the attacks on various officials was actually aimed at Jaitley.
