Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress, today expectedly critcised the Centre for hike in railway fare.

Senior TMC leader Mukul Roy, said the hike in rail fare  was “anti-people”. Describing the UPA II government, of which TMC was part of few months back, as a "minority government", he asked other political parties as well  to come forward to protest the fare hike.

“This is unfortunate. We strongly protest against such hike in rail fare. I was in railway ministry. I can say this is unnecessary, anti-people,” Roy said. TMC has also decided to hit the roads to register its protest against the fare hike.

Another TMC MP and spokesperson of the party tweeted saying, “Pre-budget price hikes old and dishonest Congress tactic. When budget comes it will be window-dressed as people-friendly.”

Union Railways minister Pawan Kumar Bansal today announced an across-the-board hike in fares of all classes from midnight of January 21 ranging from 2 to 10 paise per kilometre and said that there would not be any hike at the time of the Railway Budget.
