India is currently the chairperson of the UNWTO regional commission for South Asia and is expected to co-chair the proposed meeting with Malaysia.
Giving the details of the event here on Monday, Minister of State for Tourism K Chiranjeevi said the conference as well as the joint meeting of the regional commissions of UNWTO would be utilised in full measure to showcase India and Andhra Pradesh as unique tourist destinations.
India played a critical role in making G-20 heads of nations adopt a resolution in Mexico that tourism is a pro-poor activity, which can be a major instrument for economic development and employment generation, the minister said.
Close to 200 delegates from 29 countries besides observers and tourism operators from over 150 countries are expected to participate in this four-day event.
