Senior Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh today ruled out withdrawing his resignation from party posts, but said he would no longer ‘slog’ for the organisation like he used to.
There was no clarity whether he would attend the ongoing Saifai Mahotsav where he would meet party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav face to face for the first time since he resigned from the general secretaryship of the party.
The Saifai Mahotsav, being held in Mulayam’s ancestral village for the last five years, is attended by several Bollywood stars.
“All the speculation and hype that I am angry is unnecessary...The resignation that I have tendered, I am not going to take back,” Singh said.
Singh’s comments came after party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav yesterday refused to accept his resignation.
The two leaders spoke to each other this morning and during the conversation, Yadav invited Singh to join the festival, which started today.
Playing down any strains in his relationship with Yadav, Singh said his resignation should not be been seen as a “revolt” against the party.
“Mulayam Singh has consistently given me due recognition, he has given me preference over Ram Gopal Yadav (party general secretary),” Singh told a TV news channel, adding he did not want to force Yadav to choose between his family and the party.
