With the Centre promising to set up central educational institutions in the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh, officials are now in the process of preparing a master plan on the availability of government lands in Visakhapatnam district for setting up these institutions.

The Centre has proposed to set up an IIM, IIT, petroleum university and a tribal university in the state.

Vizag district joint collector, Praveen Kumar, said the revenue department was looking out for government lands in Visakhapatnam and Anakapalle divisions after the state government's directions.

"We have plenty government lands in these divisions, but now we are searching for clear government lands, for that we are preparing detail master plan and this will be ready by 10-15 days," he added. The government is planning to set up these institutions here to take advantage of the international airport in Visakhapatnam.

While the tribal university requires 500 acre, IIM, IIT and petroleum university each would require 200-300 acres.

According to him, the officials were preparing a detailed report on availability of government lands free of court disputes and encroachments.

According to official data, Vizag district has more than 30,000 acres of government lands.
