BJP wants JPC on Games, 2G and Adarsh

In an effort to corner the Union government in the ongoing winter session of Parliament, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to continue demanding a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) to probe the suspected scams in the Commonwealth Games preparation, the 2G telecom spectrum allocation and the Adarsh housing society scandal in Mumbai.

This is the first time the BJP has demanded a JPC on all three issues. Earlier, it was concentrating on one for the Commonwealth Games controversy. At its parliamentary party meeting today, senior leaders decided the issue of corruption in these three subjects would be their theme for the session. the BJP.

“These are important corruption cases and some of the top members of the government could be involved in these scams. This government is apprehensive of an investigation by a JPC,” said Murli Manohar Joshi, senior party leader. Without a JPC, he said, the extent of the scams and all those involved will never be exposed.

Senior leaders also raised the issue of the role of investigative agencies in naming senior members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the party’s inspiration, on charges of conspiring to carry out bomb blasts in Ajmer. Party sources said senior leader L K Advani had raised the issue.

The Rajasthan Police had recently filed a chargesheet against Indresh Kumar, an RSS pracharak, for his alleged role in the serial blasts in Ajmer two years earlier. According to the state police, Kumar was involved and also provided logistical help to the people who did the job. The RSS had announced a nationwide campaign of public protest in this regard.
