Blast probe team identifies 2-wheeler used to plant bomb

Two days after the multiple blasts in Mumbai that killed at least 17 people and injured over 130, the investigators have identified the two-wheeler used to plant one of the three bombs. They have also collected 11 CDs of CCTV recording that could help identify those who did it.

Intelligence agencies say they’re also tracking an email which had originated from outside India in this regard. A similar indication was given on last September’s blast near Delhi’s Jama Masjid, of an email originating from Norway, but those investigations reached a dead end.

The city police has been carrying out raids in Hyderabad and Ranchi for people believed to have linkages with known terrorists. It is also questioning two persons who were recently arrested and believed to be members of the banned Indian Mujahideen, allegedly involved in several serial blasts between 2005 and 2008 in Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Uttar Pradesh.

“The investigation is on. We have identified the scooter in which one of the bombs was planted,” said R K Singh, the state home secretary. The scooter was used to plant a bomb at the Zaveri Bazaar area, where most of Wednesday’s |casual-ties took place.

He said CCTV footages of the three blast sites were being scrutinised. “We have all the people and the faces. They have to be recognised by local people to see whether they are locals or outsiders. That process is on. There are 11 Cds; it is a voluminous work,” he added.
