Chhattisgarh relaxes boiler law, authorises industry to self-certify condition

Under the existing practice, the industry concerned had to apply for the renewal annually. The chief boiler inspector would conduct the inspection and certify its condition. Based on the report, the state government would renew the permission granted for operating the boiler for another one year.
"The move has been aimed to speed up industrialisation in the state by relaxing the existing norms and without disturbing the environment and security issue," state's industry secretary Subodh Kumar Singh said. The decision to relax the boiler law has been part of state government's concept of "ease of doing business".
The state government had invited industrialists earlier to seek their suggestion for the speeding up industrial growth and making easy doing business in Chhattisgarh. The suggestion of relaxing the boiler law came from the same quarter. The decision would be incorporated in the industrial policy 2014-19. Singh said that the annual inspections of boilers and certification would not be conducted by the government authorities. Instead, the company would conduct the self certification of boiler by the authorised engineers. The self certification of the boiler condition would be the submitted to the department for renewing the license.
The industry secretary added that normally after submitting the application for renewal, the official had to conduct inspection within 15 days. But it was getting delayed that caused problem for the industries. The new norms would help the industries to get rid of such problems and run the unit without any break
The process of getting the renewal had also been made online. The industrialists would apply for renewal with the self certificate of boiler condition and required fee. The boiler inspector would send the acknowledgment and permission online after verification of the documents.
