All persons and companies owning trucks or any other motorized vehicle intending to transport ore or minerals by road will have to compulsorily register them with the Directorate of Mines, according to a recent notification issued by steel & mines department.

The department, invoking sub-rule 15 of Rule-10 of Orissa Mineral (Prevention of Theft, Smuggling and Illegal Mining and Regulation of Possessing Storage, Trading and Transportation) Rules-2007, has issued directions as per which the Director of Mines will be the registering authority. The application for registration has to be made online.

"The steel & mines department has come out with a new notification according to which all trucks and vehicles carrying ores have to be registered with the Directorate of Mines”, steel & mines minister Raghunath Mohanty told reporters here.

The applicant has to file a declaration online to the effect that he has not been convicted for violation of the provisions of Mines & Minerals (Development & Regulation) Act-1957.

The owner of the vehicle is required to deposit Rs 500 per vehicle through treasury challan towards registration fees. The registration would remain valid for two years from the date of issue of the code number.

The registration can be renewed for not more than two years at a time on payment of registration fees and application being made to the registering authority before 90 days of expiry of the existing registration who will process it in the same manner as required for the original registration.
