The Income Tax department today conducted searches at 17 premises of contractors who conducted overlays works worth Rs 140 crore for the Commonwealth Games held here last year.
According to I-T sources, the searches and survey operations were carried out on the premises of two contractors in Delhi, Noida and Gurgaon.
They, however, declined to divulge names of the firms as the searches were on.
The contractors has done a host of Streetscaping work at the Games venues and were on the radar of the I-T department for some time.
A team of 50 officials are involved in the operation which began early morning today, the sources said.
Both the firms were awarded contracts by the CWG Organising Committee to the tune of Rs 67 crore and Rs 72 crore.
The I-T department last year had conducted similar searches twice on the premises of several contractors in the national capital and few other cities.
Sources said the department will prepare a list of seizures and club them with the earlier cases which dealt with the charges of alleged tax evasion in the award of contracts for the sporting extravaganza.
The financial dealings of the CWG are also on the scanner of other investigating agencies like CBI and ED.
