The Power Ministry has circulated a draft Cabinet note on state-run NTPC's Rs 17,000 crore bulk tender for sourcing equipment for four projects among various ministries, an official said.

NTPC, after mandatory Cabinet approval, plans to float a tender to secure nine supercritical boilers and nine turbine & generator sets of 800-Mw capacity each for power projects at Lara (Chhattisgarh), Kudgi (Karnataka), Darllipalli and Gajamara in Orissa.

"We have send the draft to the various ministries and are awaiting their suggestions," a Power Ministry official said.

The equipment accounts for 60 per cent of the total cost of the projects, that is, over Rs 17,000 crore. The total cost of these projects is likely to be about Rs 29,000 crore.

Supercritical equipment is energy-efficient and environment-friendly.

This is the company's second order for sourcing supercritical power equipment. NTPC had floated a tender in October last year to source 11 boilers and 11 turbine & generator sets for five power projects in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

BHEL and a consortium of Larsen & Toubro and Mitsubishi submitted bids for the boiler package and five companies -- BHEL, L&T-Mitsubishi, Bharat Forge-Alstom, Toshiba-JSW and Power Machines (Russia) -- submitted bids for the turbine & generator package.

The Bharat Forge-Alstom consortium emerged as the lowest bidder for the turbine & generator package and bids for the boiler contract are likely to be evaluated next month.
