The order lists products under 15 categories ranging from video games, laptop, notebook, tablet and plasma/LCD/LED televisions, to microwave, printers and scanners among others.
In a statement issued on Monday, the industry body, Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology (MAIT) has welcomed the government’s move to extend the deadline.
“The industry is delighted with this move taken by the IT & Communications Ministry. The relaxation of deadline will help maintain the market stability as well as avoid supply crunch,” Anwar Shirpurwala, Executive Director, MAIT.
MAIT had earlier apprehended that the Indian hardware sector may lose over Rs 1,000 crore if the government fails to extend the April 3 deadline.
