Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik today launched the vegetable distribution and online purchase platform, veggiekart.co.in

Now you can get fresh vegetables at just click of your computer mouse.

The Odisha state agriculture department in association with the VeggieKart Marketing Pvt Limited, an initiative by eKutir Rural Management Services Pvt Limited and MGM Agri-ventures today launched  an integrated communication technology based retail chain for online purchase of vegetables and VeggieKart Distribution  system.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik today launched the vegetable distribution and online purchase platform (http://veggiekart.co.in).

The marketing initiative is under the brand names of Veggie Kart, Veggie Wheel, Veggie Mart and Veggie Lite.

The Veggie Kart is the online vegetable purchasing platform wherein consumers can order vegetables online while the Veggie Wheel is the distribution retail chain for distribution of vegetables. While Veggie Mart is the brand that shall be given to the unorganized sectors, Veggie Lite is the kiosks which will be put up for selling the produces for the poor people in both urban and rural areas.

“The Veggie Lite kiosks will be opened in the area of procurement for serving the local needs in the urban and rural areas through local entrepreneurs. The Veggie Wheel, which was rolled out in Bhubaneswar will be expanded to six other districts”, said KC Mishra, Director, VeggieKart Marketing Pvt Limited.

About 15 Veggie Wheel mobile cycles were rolled out in the city and it will be increased to 150 subsequently.

Speaking on the occasion, Patnaik said that there is ample opportunity for vegetable farming in the state

In Odisha, vegetable is farmed in about seven lakh hectares and the annual production is at pegged at 95 lakh tonnes. Of this, 30 to 40 per cent is lost due to some reasons.

Fisheries & Animal Resources and Agriculture minister Debi Prasad Mishra, Prasana Patsani, MP (Loksabha), Ashok Panda, MLA, Ekamra-Bhubaneswar, Rajesh Verma, Secretary, Agriculture department also spoke on the occasion.
