GST Council to meet at 7 pm ahead of the historic launch of new tax regime

The GST Council is scheduled to meet on Friday at 7 pm at Vigyan Bhawan in central Delhi, just before the midnight launch of India's most ambitious awaited tax reform in our history, reported Times of India. GST launch will take place in an hour-long program where Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will be present among others. 

The main event is scheduled to take place at the central hall of Parliament and is expected to start around 11 pm. Prime Minister Modi and President Mukherjee will both deliver speeches on the occasion of the landmark launch which aims to bring under a uniform tax regime, subsuming around a dozen central and state taxes that are currently levied on goods and services. Two short films that will be screened at the launch as well.
