Hiring trends see green shoots in May despite second wave: Monster Index

After the long haul of lockdowns this year, the domestic job market is on the path of slow revival. According to the Monster Employment Index, May has shown green shoots growth despite the second wave and lockdowns.

Compared to April 2021, May showed a growth of 1 per cent, whereas May 2021 grew 4 per cent compared to May last year. About 45 per cent of the industries indicated positive month-on-month growth in job postings, with retail, home appliances, and telecom industries showing the highest growth.

Other industries that are doing well compared to the previous month include IT - hardware, software, banking, insurance, automation, healthcare, biotechnology, life sciences, pharmaceuticals. Indicating a downward trend, travel and tourism, import/export, and packaging continue to face the challenges of the pandemic with a decline in job postings.
