Despite alleged hurdles being created by the Congress in the 2G spectrum probe, Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman, Murli Manohar Joshi, today said he would continue to probe and expose the “wrongdoings” of the UPA government in various scams.

Highlighting these hurdles, he said when the PAC decided to call the law secretary, cabinet secretary, Director of CBI and the then Attorney General, Congress MPs protested the move, stating that PAC should stop investigating the 2G spectrum scam, as Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) would look into the matter. But with the intervention of the Lok Sabha Speaker, the matter was sorted out. During the interrogation of the officers also, the attitude of Congress members was interfering, due to which the statements could not be recorded properly, he claimed.

However, somehow the report was completed but Congress again tried to stop its presentation, he alleged. “Since the finger of suspicion was raised towards the prime minister and the finance minister, who kept mum despite knowing everything related to 2G spectrum, the Congress rejected the report,” he said.

“PAC is a constitutional body. How can they (Congress) reject its report? If this is the case, tomorrow they can reject the laws enacted by Parliament and orders passed by Supreme Court. The question is where we are heading,” Joshi asked.

He said the PAC has also investigated many other matters brought to its notice by the CAG and other agencies. “I will continue to probe the matters and expose the government wherever the irregularities are found without coming under any pressure or fear as this is the right of every citizen to know as to how the public money is being used,” he said.

Joshi also advised the Centre to keep the CBI away from its influence and said a report about its functioning and cases should be out every six months.
