The annual survey of industries (ASI) 2000-01, conducted by the field operations division of the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO), will commence in the country from September 1.
The ASI will cover industrial units registered under sections 2m (i) and 2m (ii) of the Factories Act, 1948. Over 400 NSSO staff members of assistant superintendent level will be visiting these units to collect data on capital, employment, production, etc.
In order to train the staff members and the officers for the survey, the NSSO is organising workshops at all its 45 regional offices. One of these workshops was organised at the Nagpur Regional Office (field operations division) on Monday. It was attended by NSSO personnel from all over the Vidarbha region.
Inaugurating the workshop, N V Tolani, director, NSSO (field operations division), Western Zone, Nagpur, called upon the participants to strictly follow the guidelines laid down for carrying out the survey. The NSSO, which functions under the department of statistics, Union ministry of planning, conducts sample surveys throughout the country on different topics of importance.
In the industrial sector, ASI is carried out every year as it is the principal source of data on various aspects of the registered factory sector.
