Infosys has assured the Central government that major issues with the new tax filing portal such as e-proceedings, viewing the previous year’s income tax returns (ITRs), downloading relevant forms including TDS, foreign remittances, etc will be resolved in a week.

The technology major, which is also a service provider of the income-tax portal 2.0, said this on Tuesday during a meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, senior ministry officials, chartered accountants, and other stakeholders.

On Tuesday, Sitharaman asked Infosys to work on the tax portal to make it more “humane and user-friendly”.

The minister also expressed her concern on the various problems being faced by the stakeholders on the new portal, which was expected to provide a seamless experience to taxpayers, the finance ministry said in a statement.

She asked Infosys to address all issues without a further loss of time, improve its service, and redress grievances on priority because taxpayers were affected.

The move comes after she took cognizance of the problems faced by taxpayers with the I-T portal 2.0, following the several complaints flooding her Twitter timeline since its launch on June 7. Responding to queries, the finance ministry had called a meeting with the Infosys team and also sought inputs from other stakeholders.

More than 700 emails detailing over 2,000 issues including 90 unique issues/problems on the portal were received in response to it.

During the meeting, Infosys said it had been working to fix the technical issues noticed in the functioning of the portal and it had augmented the resources for executing the project on the hardware as well as the application side. It said some issues had been identified and settled.

For the rest, it said its teams were working on them and gave timelines. They are e-proceedings, Form 15CA/15CB, TDS statements, viewing of past ITRs, etc. The timelines will be placed in the public domain in due course, the ministry noted.
