A mob attacked Jammu and Kashmir’s education minister’s house in Anantnag today, even as fresh incidents of violence rocked the Valley, leaving 22 persons injured and forcing the authorities to reimpose the curfew in Srinagar and six other towns. A day after his fiery speech on Eid, the police registered cases against Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of Hurriyat’s moderate faction and other separatist leaders for allegedly inciting yesterday’s violence during which government properties were torched. The fresh incidents of violence came ahead of tomorrow’s crucial meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security in New Delhi which is expected to consider a slew of measures to deal with the situation in Kashmir, including partial lifting of the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act .

Defying the curfew imposed in Anantnag, a mob attacked the house of Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, a former Pradesh Congress chief, at Damhal-Khushipora in the Kokernag area, 80 km from here.
