The budget prioritises crucial projects such as Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP), Colaba-Bandra-Seepz metro corridor, the second phase of monorail, flyovers, development of road network, etc. The budget was approved at MMRDA's meeting chaired by Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. “The intent is to provide easy, comfortable and congestion-free commute within the city and its metropolitan region”, said Fadnavis. Of the Rs 3,832.80 crore, an allocation of Rs 1,000 crore has been made for MUTP. The projects to be undertaken include development of the fifth and sixth line between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Kurla; Mumbai Central and Borivli; and extending the Harbour line from Andheri to Goregaon, procurement of latest electric multiple unit (EMU) rakes, etc.
Further, Rs 758.50 crore has been allocated for extended Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project, which comprises widening and improvement of NH-8 Arnala-Virar-Shirsad, SH-35 Kalyan-Badlapur-Karjat-Hal Phata, SH-38 Karjat to Hal Phata, SH-43 Katai-Naka-Badlapur and construction of flyovers. This apart, Rs 400 crore has been allotted to Monorail Phase-II from Wadala to Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk. The work on the second phase is expected to be completed next year.
The allocation of Rs 180 crore has been made for Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-III corridor.
MMRDA has further sanctioned Rs 27.5 crore for studies and surveys for the Dahisar-Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd and Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane Metro corridors.
Besides, MMRDA has also approved the construction of two flyovers and an elevated road at Chheda Nagar in northeast Mumbai, at a cost of Rs 249.29 crore.
