Modernising state's agriculture sector by introducing modern technology to boost production will by Assam government's thrust area in coming days, said Assam's chief minister Tarun Gogoi.

Gogoi said the concern of the state was to improve the economy for which the "thrust" was needed on agricultural development and "added thrust" on post harvest and cold storages. "Quality, value addition and productivity of farm products are vital ingredients which can enhance farmers' income", added Gogoi. He was speaking at 'North East Farm and Food Tech' Expo here in Guwahati, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

"Modern technology is the key enabler in transforming economy of the state and region. Emphasis should be laid on utilisation of modern technology and farm implements to boost production of agriculture and horticulture," said Gogoi.

The chief minister also said that new technology was essential for multiple cropping and added that the Assam needed advanced technologies in agriculture to ensure food security.

"Growth in agriculture sector will spur multiplier effect in the development of the micro and small industries," said Pradyut Bordoloi, Assam's industry minister. Borodoloi said the state government was trying to "create synergy" between the industry and agriculture sector and promote the MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) sector.

The Expo has been organised with the objective to bring forth the advanced and futuristic technologies across various sectors through a comprehensive buyer-seller platform; offering business opportunities and technology insight. The key technologies displayed at the Expo are - food processing, packaging, cold storage, irrigation, farm mechanisation, farm, inputs and others.
