Punjab to have India's first civil aviation varsity

| Badal announced this in his inaugural address on the daylong workshop on Punjab Strategy of Human Resource Development-Employment Generation & Training, organised here by the Department of Employment Generation & Training. |
| The chief minister said the services of eminent consultants and key players in the field of civil aviation would be engaged for the preparation of the blueprint of the proposed university. |
| He also pointed that detailed modalities would be worked out with the ministries of civil aviation and human resource development in this regard. |
| He also highlighted the services of V Mulekar, advisor, aviation services, Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd, who had played an instrumental role in the upgradation of the Amritsar International Airport in 1999 and increasing the number of international flights from merely once a week to 59 at present. |
| Referring to the tremendous potential of private security, Badal said that Punjab State Security Training Institute was being set up at Jehan Khelan in Hoshiarpur district to enable the youth to be suitably employed in the private security agencies and in central security services like the CRPF and CISF. Initially, the intake capacity would be 500 which would later be increased to 1,000. |
| He also said that there was a great scope of employment in the field of construction and the state government would soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with construction giant Larsen and Toubro (L&T) to set up an institute for training in construction and allied activities to impart specialised training to the unemployed youth in the different facets of the construction industry. |
| On the occasion, Badal released the proposed draft service industry policy prepared by the department of employment generation and training. |
