Having received 5 star rating from Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) for its office building, The Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) is gearing up to implement energy efficient measures in government buildings.

In the first phase, it has identified 10 government buildings across the state for implementation of energy efficient projects. The proposed project is likely to reduce the energy consumption in these buildings to the extent of 20-25 per cent.

Speaking to Buisness Standard, PEDA Chief Executive T P S Sidhu said, “ Recently our building has been labeled as 5 Star by Bureau of Energy Efficiency. The conventional lighting load of the building has been reduced upto 90 per cent with daylight integration resulting in overall energy saving of upto 50 per cent. Now we are planning to introduce energy saving measures in existing government building. We have identified 10 government buildings for implementing energy saving measures. We are confident by implementing energy saving measures in these building, energy consumption could be reduced to 20-25 per cent.”

“The execution would be done by Energy Service Company (ESCO) on revenue sharing basis between the beneficiaries and the company,” Sidhu added.
