India's foodgrains production is estimated at a record 235.88 million tonne in the 2010-11 crop year, ending June, on the back of the highest-ever output of wheat and pulses, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar announced today.

"The third advance estimate figures are available with me, which show an all-time record production of foodgrains at 235.88 million tonne. Wheat at 84.27 million tonne and pulses at 17.29 million tonne are also the highest recorded production ever," Pawar said while addressing the Kharif Conference here.

The earlier record of 234.47 million tonne was achieved in the 2008-09 crop year. The earlier record of 80.8 million tonne of wheat production was achieved in 2009-10. The previous pulses production record was 14.91 million tonne in the 2003-04 crop year.

India's output of foodgrains comprises wheat, rice, pulses and coarse cereals.

India's rice production is pegged at 94.11 million tonne in the 2010-11 crop year (July-June) as against 89.09 million tonne in the previous year. Coarse cereals production amounted to 40.21 million tonne in the 2010-11 crop year as against 33.55 million tonne in the previous year.
